Abstract. The Johns Hopkins University Center for Nondestructive Evaluation (CNDE) is an interdisciplinary cooperative center between the university, government, and industrial organizations dedicated to the development of more accurate and innovative methods for the nondestructive evaluation of materials and to the education of talented students who will enter the nondestructive testing field. Dear Colleagues, As society gets older, civil structures, a main component of society, deteriorate and require maintenance. To assess the current condition of a structure in service, many researchers have been working on structural health monitoring (SHM) and nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques.
Nondestructive Testing (NDT) consists of a variety of non-invasive inspection techniques used to evaluate material properties, components, or entire process units. The techniques can also be utilized to detect, characterize, or measure the presence of damage mechanisms (e.g. corrosion or cracks).NDT is also commonly referred to as nondestructive examination (NDE), nondestructive evaluation. ASTM, the first engineering society to recognize the enormous potential of the new technology for test standards, held a symposium on radiography and X-ray differentiation methods in , followed two years later by the formation of Committee E-7 on Radiographic Testing (today’s Committee E-7 on Nondestructive Testing).
Applications of holographic interferometry to nondestructive testing C. M. Vest, D. W. Sweeney (International Advances in Nondestructive Testing ) Holographic interferometry of the corrosion process K. N. Petrov, Yu. P. Presnyakov (Optics and Spectroscopy [USSR] ). The International Handbook of FRP Composites in Civil Engineering brings together a wealth of information on advances in materials, techniques, practices, nondestructive testing, and structural health monitoring of FRP composites, specifically for civil infrastructure.

Within the scope of non-destructive and semi-nondestructive testing, there are also tests based on various types of mechanical impact, such as the measurement of pulling force and of the depth of. Nondestructive testing (NDT) is a wide group of analysis techniques used in science and technology industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component or system without causing damage.
The terms nondestructive examination (NDE), nondestructive inspection (NDI), and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) are also commonly used to describe this technology. The aim of this 3-volume set is to bring together the expertise of scientists and engineers, in academia and industry, who are active in the field of non-destructive testing and is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).The papers cover activities which include analytical techniques as well as experimental case studies.
Research in Nondestructive Evaluation (RNDE) is the research journal of the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT). RNDE covers experimental and theoretical investigations dealing with the scientific and engineering bases of NDE, its measurement methodology and a wide range of applications of materials and structures that relate to the entire life cycle, from manufacture to use and.
This volume contains an interesting variety of papers on recent advances in nondestructive testing as well as comments of general interest on present problems.
One of the latter points out the difficulties resulting from the differences in terminology between that used by the physicists who design nondestructive tests and that by the Author: A Wolfenden, CW McKee.
